Help welcome 9 new residents!

Great news!  Hearth’s Outreach team is finalizing arrangements for nine older adults to be sustainably housed at newly built units in Newton.  Construction will be finished in a few weeks, and housing applications are well underway.

Here’s how you can play an instrumental role: our clients, who are all chronically homeless, need new furnishings.  We are asking you for funding to respond to this time-urgent project.

Cynthia will be the first to move in. While staying at Rosie’s Place, she bonded with Lisa, her Hearth case manager. Lisa identified Cynthia’s housing eligibility and navigated each step of the housing journey.

“Being homeless was a huge deal for me.  It brought me to a very low place, especially after losing my husband. I was very depressed and felt alone and not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.  I now see this experience as a blessing because I learned so much about treating others with respect and kindness.”

It can seem like a miracle when new units for previously homeless people are created. While it feels good to give people the keys to their very own apartment, it is hard to declare victory if residents don’t have a bed or a microwave oven.  Hearth aims to house our residents with dignity; it is integral to our mission. For each of our residents to thrive, they need both a roof over their head and household essentials.

Last week, Lisa took Cynthia for a preview of her apartment at 2Life’s Golda Meir House.

“Having the key in my hand and walking into my space is what I’m so excited about. When I first looked at the place, I took a deep breath and it was the most relaxed I had been in so long. I got to exhale and smile.”

Could you contribute to Hearth’s dedicated furnishings fund for Cynthia and the other eight residents who will join her?  By doing so, you will become a crucial part of the team to house all our residents with the dignity and sustainability that they deserve.

We look forward to sending photos of Cynthia in her new home, which she hopes to fill with the bright colors of her Jamaican roots.
